KANSAS CITY, MO. Nov. 8, 2016  Since the launch of the industry’s first-ever Type C CNG school bus, Thomas Built Buses Saf-T-Liner C2® CNG has catapulted in popularity. Nearly 250 Thomas Built Type C CNG school buses have been ordered since the start of production in June, 2016, 131 of which have already hit the road. North Kansas City, Blue Springs, Los Angeles Unified, Lee’s Summit and most recently, Fort Bend ISD are just a few of the school districts across the country who are impressed with compressed natural gas.

“Based on the popularity of our Saf-T-Liner® C2, we are not at all surprised by the demand that we are seeing for our Saf-T-Liner® C2 CNG,” said Caley Edgerly, president and CEO of Thomas Built Buses. “Customers seeking CNG in their fleets have been looking for a safe, reliable and durable bus that provides all of the bells, whistles and innovations of our clean-diesel fueled C2. We answered their call, and customers could not be more excited.”

The new Saf-T-Liner C2 CNG school bus utilizes the Cummins Westport ISB6.7 G 6.7-liter natural gas engine and an Allison 2000 Series transmission. The new bus is CARB-certified and exceeds EPA 2013 emissions requirements.  Like all other C2 models, the Saf-T-Liner C2 CNG features excellent driver ergonomics and maneuverability, along with the best visibility, safety and durability in its class.

Compressed natural gas has become a popular fuel choice for many school districts because of the plentiful domestic fuel supply, stable fuel costs and clean-burning engines.

Thomas Built leads the industry in incorporating green technology into its buses. The company introduced its first compressed natural gas bus nearly 20 years ago, and has sold more than 2,000 CNG buses. Today, its green vehicle lineup also includes the Saf-T-Liner® C2 PropaneSaf-T-Liner® HDX CNGMinotour® Propane and Minotour® CNG
