High Point, N.C. – March 1, 2019 – Thomas Built Buses and parent company Daimler Trucks North America donated $100,000 to support The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club located in High Point, N.C. through the DaimlerCares program. Through this program, Daimler Trucks North America serves non-profit organizations in local communities at each of their major business unit locations. The 2019 grant, which was awarded on February 11, will improve the lives of children by funding STEM Summer Day Camp programming, facility upgrades, and current youth sports initiatives.
“I could not think of a better fit for this year’s DaimlerCares donation,” said Caley Edgerly, president and CEO of Thomas Built Buses. “Through The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club, local children thrive as they develop their leadership, character and life skills, enrich their spiritual development, and gain exposure to the arts. This program is a must for our area, and I am excited to see the additional impact that will be made through this donation.”
Over the course of the year, the donation will be used to develop larger afterschool and STEM summer day camp programs to foster an even more creative, fun, and integrative learning environment for the students who attend their programs all year round. The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club also plans to renovate their gymnasium floor in order to improve and expand their current Victory Sports Leagues, which teaches every youth participant basic game fundamentals and the value of sportsmanship and teamwork.
“Our programs and services promote and enhance the development of boys and girls by instilling a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging and influence,” said Hanna Holcomb, marketing and development coordinator for The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club. “The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club of High Point is extremely thankful to receive this grant from Thomas Built Buses and for the opportunity to continue helping more youth in the greater High Point community have a safe place to learn, grow, and play.”
