High Point, N.C. – July 26, 2019 – Leading school bus manufacturer, Thomas Built Buses Inc. has announced eligibility for funding from the California Energy Commission (CEC) for its first electric school bus, the Saf-T-Liner C2 Jouley powered by Proterra electric vehicle technology. Through this program, California school districts purchasing the Saf-T-Liner C2 Jouley electric school bus are eligible for reimbursement of disposed older school buses approved under California Energy Commission GFO-17-607 grant program.

“We are proud to be part of the CEC program,” said Caley Edgerly, president and CEO of Thomas Built Buses. “Through state voucher and grant programs like this one, electric school buses are becoming feasible for districts across the nation. And, as more California districts purchase Jouley, we are moving one step closer to bringing electric buses to even more schools.”

The Saf-T-Liner C2 Jouley, which recently also received full California Air Resources Board (CARB) and Hybrid and Zero-Emission Truck and Bus Voucher Incentive Project (HVIP) certifications, is powered by Proterra electric vehicle technology. Proterra, headquartered in California, is a leading innovator in heavy-duty electric transportation with more than eight million miles of service in the transit industry. Together, Proterra and Thomas Built Buses are shaping the future of electric school buses.

Equipped with the same vehicle quality, durability, performance, safety and comfort as the popular Saf-T-Liner C2, Jouley has a quiet operation and zero emissions. Jouley is configured with 220 kWh of total energy capacity, a two-speed transmission, and an operating range of up to 120 miles. The Jouley can charge in about three hours with the Proterra DC charging system. Thomas Built Buses is the only OEM to offer schools a comprehensive, turnkey solution of electric school bus, commercial DC fast chargers from Proterra, and electrical infrastructure project management.
